Minneapolis police are investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old man was shot to death in his car Saturday morning on the city’s North Side.
Lindale Ave N. near Camden Apartments. Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block around 11:40 a.m. They found a chaotic scene with a vehicle stuck in a light pole and a seriously injured man lying on the road nearby. Good Samaritans pulled the victim from the wreckage and performed CPR until first responders arrived, police said.
He was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital where he later died. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
“We believe a second vehicle stopped and fired multiple rounds [at the victim’s car]MPD’s newly sworn-in Police Chief Brian O’Hara rushed to the scene after the ShotSpotter app alerted him to the 15-shot incident. “It’s absolutely outrageous.”
O’Hara praised the courage of bystanders who tried to save the man’s life and asked anyone with information about this case to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted at CrimeStoppersMN.org. Information leading to an arrest and conviction may be eligible for a reward.
No arrests have been announced, and police have offered no preliminary indication of a motive.
Police forensic officers collected evidence at the scene, and at least a dozen pieces of evidence littered the street.
Minneapolis has had 75 homicides so far this year, according to a Star Tribune database.
