MARSHALL, Texas (KLTV) – A man arrested after a June 6 shooting at a CityTrends store in Marshall shot himself when law enforcement arrived at his home to find out why he didn’t show up Thursday. The court and the sheriff’s office say.
On Nov. 16, Montreal Hatton, the alleged suspect in a June shooting at City Trends in Marshall, was issued a bond forfeiture warrant for failure to appear at a pre-trial hearing. When Hatton was released, the bond conditions included a GPS ankle monitor and conditions regarding contact with the shooting victims. The bond forfeiture warrant is for assault with a deadly weapon/domestic violence, the sheriff’s office said.
Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Hatton’s ankle monitor had been disabled. He then contacted a probation officer at the Harrison County Probation Department, who oversees pre-trial release matters. Hatton’s comments to the probation officer were alarming and heightened concern for Hatton and the victims in the case, the sheriff’s office said.
As the day progressed, Hatton was located in the 500 block of Pearson Street in Avinger.
Multiple members of the HCSO responded to that location in Cass County along with members of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Cass County DA’s Office. Deputies attempted to speak with Hatton inside a residence. His family members were also at the residence, the sheriff’s office said. They say Hatton then tried to take his own life by shooting himself.
Life-saving measures were immediately administered and EMS was requested. Avinger Fire Department along with Lifenet EMS responded and care-flighted Hatton to LSU Shreveport. He succumbed to his injuries around 7.25 pm
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division will respond and lead this investigation, which is standard practice in all suicide incidents.
