CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Marion County man will spend 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with a shooting in Horry County during the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday.

Diamante Currie, 22, of Marion pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced by the Honorable Circuit Court Judge Thomas W. Cooper to 23 years in prison.

Currie’s charges stem from the Thanksgiving 2020 shooting death of victim Jeffrey Monnett in Socastee.

“Violent criminals prey on people they think are buying or selling drugs. Here, the defendant attempted to rob the victim, which led to this tragic outcome,” said Assistant Solicitor Seth Oskin, who prosecuted the case. “Mr. Monet was a beloved son and relative. We are grateful that this request brings some peace and justice to his family.
