‘Why is Mamata silent?’: BJP MP Locket Chatterjee files FIR against Akhil Giri
On Sunday, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee registered a complaint at the North Avenue police station against Giri under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC/ST Act and sought immediate action.
In an exclusive conversation with Republican TV, Locket Chatterjee questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s silence and asked her to issue a public apology. The BJP MP has ventured that if no action is taken against Giri, the women and tribal communities of the country will unite and raise their voices.
The BJP MP said, “Akhil Giri is still a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s government and she should remove him immediately. It’s been 48 hours, CM Mamata is silent on this issue. The nation will raise its voice.”
Notably, the BJP has protested against Chief Minister Giri in West Bengal and protest marches and dharnas took place in several places in the state including Kolkata, Purba Medinipur, Malda and Bankura.
The TMC leader insulted President Murmu
TMC leader. Akhil Giri. Addressing a rally where he verbally attacked BJP leader and TMC’s bete noire Suvendu Adhikari, he dragged President Murmu’s name completely out of nowhere and insulted him in an unvarnished manner, mocking the way he spoke. put, “He (Suvendu) said, I’m not good (Laughs) How beautiful you are!” Nice look…didn’t judge the look. We respect the chair of your president (Rashtrapati). What does your President (Rashtrapati) look like?”
After a big uproar over his statement, Giri issued a statement and claimed that the incident was a slip of the tongue. “I respect the highest office of our country, the head of the constitution of our nation. In recent days Suvendu Adhikari, LoP of West Bengal Assembly and leader of BJP is one of the forwards after the derogatory statements against me … , on several issues I said that I am appointing you as our president, it was because of a slippery tongue and anger, I repent of that statement, I said about our president,” added Giri.
