GUWAHATI: There are speculations that the former president of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTR) of Assam – Hagrama Mohilary is likely to join the BJP.
This hypothesis was confirmed by Hagrama Mohilary’s recent meeting with RSS leader Indresh Kumar in Nagpur.
Experts believe that Hagrama Mohilary’s move to appease the RSS leaders is similar to his attempt to curry favor with the ruling BJP in Assam.
Notably, the BJP in Assam has tied up with Hagrama Mohilary and his party – the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) – ahead of the 2020 BTR elections.
BJP in Assam formed alliance with UPPL to form government from BTC.
Assam BJP president Bhavesh Kalita, on November 15, said that the saffron party is committed to continue the UPPL alliance with BTR.
With the BPF rapidly losing its popularity in Assam, the projected merger of the Hagrama Mohilary-led party is seen as an attempt to revive its political identity in the state.
Hagrama Mohilary also wrote a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, urging the BPF to once again be an ally of the saffron party.
“The BPF will wholeheartedly support the BJP in the upcoming parliamentary elections and will not field any anti-BJP candidate in Assam. The BPF will continue to support the Assam government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji,” the letter said. sent by Hagrama to JP Nadda.
