Family and friends of the 41-year-old man, who was shot dead Saturday morning, gathered a day later in the area where he died for a vigil.
Family members identified the victim as Nathan Robert Jason Ward.
“This is very devastating for our family. Nathan has endured many tough battles in his life and it’s so tragic that he was taken from us,” his daughter-in-law Alyssa told CTV News.
Police responded to a shooting in the 0 to 100 block of Falconridge Place NE around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He died on the spot.
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) believes the suspect in the fatal shooting was involved in another Remembrance Day shooting in Castleridge that left one person in critical condition.
Taylor Rohn, 25, of Calgary, was arrested in connection with Friday’s shooting, police said Sunday.
“Investigation is active in both the incidents. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or persons in the Castleridge and Falconridge areas to the police,” the CPS said in a statement.
Ward’s friends and family are calling for justice.
“You destroyed an entire family. Like, what’s wrong with you? My homie was never violent towards anyone. “He always loved his family and his children,” Ward’s friend Michael Dove said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
