WHETSTONE, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – On Monday, a gunman opened fire on employees at Desert RV in the town of Wheatstone, leaving one dead and another in critical condition.

Investigators are working around the clock to collect evidence and try to find the cause. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Bruce Alvin Hansberry of Sierra Vista was arrested.

Wheatstone may be a small town, but people say they have a big heart. They care about each other and have each other’s back. They are shaken by the fatal shooting and still can’t believe what they saw 24 hours ago.

“My daughter was riding her bike with her dog in this area. When the shots started happening,” explained Fabian McMillan.

He and his daughter live down the road from Desert RV. She rushed home and told her father what had happened on Monday night.

“I came back outside and as I was going back inside the house, I heard multiple gunshots and it seemed like they were aimed at me. I was there and I heard the whistle of the bullets, so I thought, ‘Oh, they might be shooting at us!'” he said.

McMillan said the community pulls together, especially during a crisis.

“I saw the car driving that way, so I got in my truck and I was going after it,” he said.

The police stopped it saying it was too dangerous.

“That’s when all the cops started showing up. It seems like the whole situation of the cops was shown,” McMillan explained.

Clinton Voss said she always stops at Desert RV to talk to the kids. On Monday, he lays flowers to honor 47-year-old Robert Lizarraga, who sold his RV.

“So, I didn’t know him very well, but I knew him well where everybody that worked was always like a best friend,” Voss said.

Both said the police response was incredible and well done.

“Sheriff Mark Daniels came here last night, law enforcement here to help find this guy. It’s amazing how our community comes together and protects each other. It’s beautiful,” Voss said.

Jeff Ross, owner of Desert RV, said the community has been very loving during this tragedy. He is very thankful for everyone’s support.
