ANACOCO, LA (KPLC) – Vernon Parish officials say a call this morning about a homeowner shooting an intruder is now believed to have been set up by a husband and wife.
Also, according to information from the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, the wife is believed to have misrepresented her relationship with the man her husband shot.
Christopher Riggs, 38, of Anacoco, was arrested on one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of criminal conspiracy and one count of second-degree murder.
Lindsey Riggs, 35, of Anacoco, was arrested on one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of criminal conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
The Vernon Parish E911 Communications Center received a call at 8:03 a.m. from a person who said an intruder had been shot at his home on McConathy Road in Anacoco.
Two minutes later, the call center received a call from a woman who reported that a man who had been shot had crashed her vehicle near her residence on Hammock Road in Anacoco.
Deputies found a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the arm, according to information from the sheriff’s office. The man was taken from Hammock Road to the Anacoco Town Hall landing zone, where he was taken by Life Flight to a Rapides Parish hospital.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Riggs told deputies responding to McConaughey Road that he shot a man who tried to force his way into his home.
However, after bringing Christopher and Lindsey Riggs to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office for an interview, the sheriff’s office said Lindsey Riggs misrepresented the nature of her relationship with the victim to her husband.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives believed Riggs used false pretenses to lure Christopher Riggs to their residence.
The injured man is being treated but is expected to recover, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Riggs is in jail. Bond has not been set.
