A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Assam’s Hojai district, police said on Tuesday. Uttam Das was arrested on Monday night for allegedly raping a girl in Lumding town of Hojai district, they added.
The suspect forcibly took the victim in his car and allegedly assaulted her, according to the police. The police have registered a case at Lumding police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act after receiving a complaint in this regard.
Lumding Chandan Police Station Commander Jyoti Bora said, “We have received information that the accused forcibly took the victim in a car and traveled to different places where he allegedly molested her.” When the car stopped, the victim got out of the car and fled the scene, Boora added.
The police have arrested the accused for the case against him, the officer added. Accused Uttam Das will be produced before the court, he added. (ANI)
