MAXATAWNY TWP., Pa. — An 18-year-old student was killed in a shooting at a student apartment complex near Kutztown University, state police said.
The shooting took place at the Advantage Point off-campus student housing development around 12.50 am on Saturday.
The man who was shot, Diego Velazquez of Reading, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, where he died a short time later, according to the coroner’s office.
The coroner ruled the death a homicide.
There is no word from police on whether the suspect or suspects have been identified. No word on a possible motive either.
State police told 69News they are following up on several leads.
A security alert sent out by Cooktown University at 5:30 a.m. Saturday said:
“State police are continuing to investigate the shooting incident at Advantage Point and will release more information as it becomes available. The KU campus community may resume normal activities now that the perpetrators are believed to have left the area.”
